PROJECT 'S'

It doesn't feel like I've done anything to the 'S' over the last two months, it is still sitting on its trolley waiting for the welding to begin. However there has been some progress, the attachments that turn the trolleys into a rotisserie are finished and the hubs that attach the central pole to the body are nearly ready.

We attended the Restoration show at Stoneleigh, this is held in the same location as the Mini Spares Bonanza but is considerably larger, with two halls and the club area all full of traders. There were a number of demonstrations going on in everything from welding to lead loading. We came away with some nifty clamps to holds bits of bodywork together while they are being welded, an air driven saw and if they hadn't sold out, we would also have bought a welding helmet which automatically goes from clear to dark when the arc is struck.

I have since bought the helmet from (WARNING WARNING SPONSOR PLUG - Basic Welding - soon to be available through MiniMall) and have been using it to do some stick welding on the rotisserie hubs. What a difference, you can see the work piece clearly, allowing you to position the end of the rod just were you want it. Then as the arc strikes, the glass goes dark instantly, it takes a while to stop yourself shutting your eyes at the critical moment.
