The Mini has always been an International car, it was sold all over the world and the widespread nature of the Mini enthusiast communitity is testemony to that. It is generally known that in addition to the two manufacturing plants in the UK - Cowley(Oxford) and Longbridge(Birmingham) - Minis were also made in Italy (Innocenti) and Australia. It is less well known that Minis and Mini derivatives were also made in a number of other countries around the world. In some cases this was an assembly process from CKD (completely Knocked Down) kits shipped out from the UK, in others there was a high local content. The other aspect of Mini diversity is reflected in the models made for specific markets ranging from the comprehensive range of special editions available in the UK to climate specific cars for the Scandenavian markets. This section of The Mini Register is a work-in-progress, it will build into a record of all the models of the Mini and its derivatives on a country by country basis. We need your help - if you can help with any information about Mini models, derivatives, factories, markets, etc please let us now at minifile@miniregister.com - Thank you |
